abstract
This comprehensive theoretical review aims to conceptualize and contextualize Emotional Intelligence (EI) within the structural frameworks of modern psychology, including counseling, organizational, and health psychology. The study provides an in-depth analysis of the historical and conceptual evolution of the three primary theoretical models: the Ability Model, the Trait Model, and the Mixed/Competency Model. Furthermore, a critical psychometric evaluation is conducted on widely utilized assessment instruments (such as MSCEIT, EQ-i 2.0, ECI 2.0, TEIQue, TMMS, WLEIS, STEM, and STEU), examining construct validity, factor structure, internal consistency, and incremental predictive validity. Incorporating recent bibliometric mapping, the review highlights the role of EI in psychological adaptation, stress management, burnout prevention, leadership development, and human interactions with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. The review concludes that EI bridges cognition and emotion, serving as a vital determinant of psychological well-being, self-efficacy, and personal flourishing
